Indigenous Identity Project

Aboriginal people can be self-identified and defined by the state, but these definitions are often in conflict. Identity can be defined by the connection to culture and tradition, or contrastingly defined by law created by the government for aboriginal people in the Indian Act. The project takes reflections on identity by Aboriginal people and are screen-printed over the Indian Act as a form of taking control of what it means to be Aboriginal in Canada. This symbolically says that our own definition of who we are as First Nations comes from us, not the government.
